black ops server hack

Quitting games on Call of Duty: Black Ops can get you penalized, but forcing other people to quit games can get you locked up. A UK teen is now well aware of this as he sits behind bars for using a program called "Phenom Booter" to kick players from Call of Duty servers in September.

The Phenom Booter program attacks servers, denying specific users - or all users on the server - to be booted off the server. This hack was floating around on forums earlier in the year, and can be seen in demonstration with a quick YouTube search. E-cops eventually traced the attacks from the teen to the Greater Manchester area, charging the 17 year old with violating the U.K.'s Computer Misuse Act of 1990.

"Programs marketed in order to disrupt the online infrastructure not only affect individual players but have commercial and reputational consequences for the companies concerned," stated Detective Inspector Paul Hoare to BBC. "These games attract both children and young people to the online environment and this type of crime can often be the precursor to further offending in more traditional areas of online crime."

uncharted 3 drakes deception

The third installment in the PS3 exclusive Uncharted series will hit stores sometime in 2011 - while a motion picture adaption featuring Mark Walhberg is shooting - and is shaping up to be the talk of the town.

Focusing around Drake's relationship with Sully, Uncharted 3 is looking to delve deep into personal issues of trust (among other issues) centered around a tasty theme of deception. Adventuring is still the meat of Uncharted, and expect it in spades while traversing throughout the Rub' al Khali Desert searching for a fabled city buried in the sandy terrain. Bringing the desert to life is a challenge that Naughty Dog is tackling head on.

"When we first came up with the idea of sand, you see everyone's eyes light up here and go, 'Yeah, that's going to be really hard — let's do it!'" said the game's creative director Ann Henning.

Additional features include giving Drake the ability to climb backward, as well as to fight multiple people simultaneously. Naughty Dog is also aggressively tweaking the multiplayer system to play a bigger role in the third Uncharted installment.

Sonic 4 Leaderboard reset

I've never seen the point in getting to number one on a leaderboard with a cheated score - especially when the score is so ridiculous it is obviously fake. Really? You beat the level in 0 seconds?

Because of these attention seeking hackers the entire Sonic 4 leaderboards will reset (and I will have to once again get my Splash Hill Act 2 score charted, argh!). Though, you might want to wait a while to get your time back up, as apparently there is no permanent fix to stop the hackers from doing it again, which they surely will.

Kinect Star Wars

One of the software engineers for Sony’s PlayStation Move, Anton Mikhailov, soke with EuroGamer on the topic of Kinect’s upcoming Star Wars game. "There's no way Kinect can do a good light saber game. Just never,” said Mikhailov.

Mikhailov then went on to brag about how a Move-compatible Star Wars game would be “damn better than Kinect’s,” even though no such game for Move has been announced.

“Technologically it's 100 per cent feasible,” continued Mikhailov on the subject of a Move Star Wars game.  "We can overlay objects over the controller in AR. You've seen that in Start the Party, and swords are a really popular one. The fidelity is certainly there to do all sorts of Star Wars kid-style action. You can very well do the light saber."

As if comparing a game in development to a theoretical game wasn’t bold enough, Mikhailov then questioned the integrity of the Kinect Star Wars demo: "I've seen the demo but it's so scripted, and wasn't it like, faked?”

Kinect’s outspoken guru Kudo Tsunoda was reportedly last seen lobbying Nintendo for the right to make the Move-Kinect rivalry “on like Donkey Kong”.

gran turismo 5 install

As if Gran Turismo 5 didn't take enough time in development, it seems the popular racing franchise is set on stealing more time - yours. And it is going to get it one way or another.

Note that this installation is optional, and you may still do the basic 256 MB basic installation if you don't have space to spare. But if you do this, then expect to wait longer at loading screens every time you play.

Or you can suck it up and wait the hour and use the 10 GB of space. In the long run you'll probably end up saving yourself time by doing this.

Internet forum scrounger Amar212 received a PAL version of the game and reported that the installation warned that "install of game data can take up to 50 minutes." According to him, it took 40 minutes and used up 6.4 gigabytes, but learned that GT5 continued to unpack itself during playtime and took up even more space.

VUDU f2.0, playstation 3

As if having Sony's own Video Marketplace, Netflix, and Hulu to satisfy the film cravings of PS3 owners wasn't enough, Sony is now adding a fourth movie service with VUDU.

Basically, VUDU is a video marketplace that allows rentals and purchases of movies through streaming. This is something that the other services on the system don't do, as it is the only one that allows you to purchase movies without downloading them, but it's not a big leap either.

Rentals will cost about $2 for SD, while HD is a higher $4-6--those $6 rentals get you the HDX 1080p streaming content, which looks fantastic. Signing up with the VUDU service will earn you a $6 credit as well.

VUDU is only available in the US.

Ghost Recon Future Soldier

It seems like both Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Future Soldier and Driver: San Francisco have caught the same perpetually delaying bug that plagues Gran Turismo 5, as both titles have been pushed back to the 2011 fiscal year in April.

Both games were on track to ship in the fourth quarter of Ubisoft's 2010 fiscal year, which is between January and March.

No word on why the two anticipated games have been delayed, but if it keeps up then Ghost Recon Future Soldier will be able to live up to its title.

fallout new vegas review

As the first game of the season I was eagerly awaiting, I got Fallout: New Vegas as soon as it came out and played it religiously for 27 hours. In that time I estimate that I probably finished around 60% of the side quests before finishing the main story. It gave me an overview of the wasteland in and around the strip, and most of the quests available to carry the story along. The game is available for the PC, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3. So, is it worth your time? We give you our thoughts in our full review.
